Tasting Notes
An expressive and frankly gorgeous nose that opens up with lime and fresh butter, fresh pineapple, lemon zest, and creme brulee along with a touch of fresh mango. This is textured but beautifully fresh on the palate – a wine that coats the mouth with flavour but finishes with life and lift. Tarte fine au citron, pineapple, a touch of cream and grapefruit pith, all built around waves of flesh and freshness. Precision and presence abound in this deeply satisfying Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Without wanting to damn this with faint praise, it is a dangerously drinkable bottle of wine… The Sonoma Coast cuvee is made up of fruit from Matt’s three single vineyards (the third is called Silver Eagle) and represents a selection made in the cellar, aimed at fine tuning the vineyard designate wines. As such, this represents a blend of top fruit, some of which happened to do its elevage in slightly more neutral oak, thus making it less eligible for the single vineyard wines, and also more approachable in the near term. So not a declassification, more of a multi-site blend.
