Tasting Notes
Ausone’s second wine will rival just about any other St Emilion (apart from Ausone itself) in 2010. Chapelle is a blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from the finest terroir in the commune. It represents just a quarter of the production from yields of 26 hl/ha. When one tastes the Chapelle one wonders how the grand vin will eclipse it; it is complex, refined and utterly pitch perfect. On the nose there are notes of fine herbs, minerals, cut flowers, crème de mûre, dark chocolates and sweet earth. The palate is awash with multilayered fruit; this is seriously intense and svelte with a mass of purple and dark fruit, precise tannins and wonderfully refreshing acidity. Exquisite.
