Tasting Notes
“The 2019 Clos Puy Arnaud is fabulous, just as it was in barrel. Plush and beautifully layered, with soft contours and silky tannins. Dark fruit, mocha, cloves, licorice, violets and spice all build as this flamboyant Castillon Côtes De Bordeaux opens with a bit of air. In a word: superb.” Vinous – Galloni – 94 Points “The 2019 Clos Puy Arnaud, the biodynamic estate from Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, has an attractive, well-defined bouquet of blackberry, light estuarine scents and hints of clove and allspice. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, and slightly grainy in texture. There’s plenty of freshness here, and the Cabernets impart engaging cedary notes on the finish. Excellent.” Vinous – Neal Martin – 92 Points “Mid crimson. Toasty, savoury, appetising nose. Nothing overdone here and a good balance between ripe, nicely integrated fruit and freshness. A really honest wine with nothing exaggerated, no make-up. Essence of place and accessible even if there is reassuring structure under the filigree fruit. Just the sort of wine to reassure a younger generation that Bordeaux can produce the goods. Chapeau!” Jancis Robinson – 17 Points “Always a benchmark wine for me in terms of success of a vintage, and this is promising from the start, with silky, inky purple depths to the colour, clear ease of extraction. Pulses of black cherry on the attack, this is sleek without sacrificing a sense of energy and uplift. Extremely good quality, you’re going to want to get on board. For me clearly better than the 2018 at this stage, great stuff from owner Thierry Valette. Biodynamic.” Decanter – Jane Anson – 93 Points
