Aged for the same amount of time in barrel as the other Crus, with a higher percentage of new oak (80%) and kept in bottle longer before release. This is predominantly old vines Rocche dell’Annunziata, profound and spicy, excellent tannic grip yet very svelte. As well as ripe fruit this also boasts a lifting freshness and a deep, deep minerality, notes of bilberry, blueberry, cherry and bramble with redder touches of sweet strawberry.

Notes

The 2005 Barolo Vecchie Vigne, from old vines in Rocche dell’Annunziata, boasts considerable depth and overall intensity in its dark red cherry, plum, spice, menthol and licorice flavors. Here, too, the high percentage of new oak has allowed some oxidative notes to creep in that suggest the wine is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. At times, the 2005 is silky, while in other moments it is much more powerful, an indication that the elements have never truly come together.
